The LLAGNY Education Committee is pleased to announce the following event:

Discussion Group: The Evolution of the Treatise

When: Thursday, February 2, 2017, 6:30-8:30pm.
Location: Dr. Lillian & Dr. Rebecca Chutick Law Library, Cardozo School of Law, 55 5th Ave, New York, 10003.

Refreshments: Light food and drink will be provided.

RSVP: Due to limited space, RSVP is required. Please RSVP to Sarah Jaramillo, s[email protected].

Description: The legal treatise has played a central and authoritative role in the legal research, but the changing information landscape makes the maintenance of the canonical treatise less economically feasible. In this discussion group, we’ll discuss this issue in the context of the following two articles:

• Peter W. Martin, Possible Futures for the Legal Treatise in an Environment of Wikis, Blogs, and Myriad Online Primary Law Sources, 108.1 Law Lib. J. 7 (2016); and

• Jasper L. Cummings, Jr., Finding Corporate Tax Law, 147 Tax Notes 667 (2015).

This event is modeled on a book club. Moderators will pose questions based on the above articles to facilitate discussion. Therefore, attendees will be expected to have familiarity with the main ideas of the above articles.

Moderated by Elizabeth Cook, E-Resources and Collection Development Librarian at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and Sarah Jaramillo, Librarian for Foreign and International Law at New York University School of Law.
