SLA’s Walking Tour of Harlem 2023. 

Invitation: A Walking Tour of Harlem: “New York’s Most Storied Neighborhood”  

 Leigh Hallingby will lead a visit to the most iconic locations in Harlem starting with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (part of NYPL). Also: the Abyssinian Baptist Church, Apollo Theater, Harlem Walk of Fame, 125th Street, and the statues of Harriet Tubman; Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.; and Mother Hale. We will also explore the landmarked neighborhoods of Astor Row, Mount Morris Park, and Strivers Row. We will enjoy the beautiful architecture and wide boulevards of Harlem and note the many ways in which great African Americans are honored. 

MEETING PLACE: Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, 515 Malcolm X Blvd. (AKA Lenox Ave.) at the intersection of 135th St.  The 2/3 subway stops at 135th St. in front of the Schomburg   
                                    
ENDING PLACE: Hale House, 152 W. 122nd St. 

OPTIONAL LUNCH AFTERWARDS: Harlem Shake, 100 West 124th Street @ Malcolm X Blvd./Lenox Ave. Everyone orders and pays individually at the counter. They are known for making the best milkshakes in NYC!
